Playlist: Chicago I Love You and You Brought Me Up

This month’s playlist is inspired by the LCD Soundsystem farewell show last night (I watched part of it online and holy fucking shit, excuse my language but it was the greatest musical achievement of our time, for real — you can see it here). I’m no James Murphy and I know nothing about New York, but I could probably tell you a few things about Chicago. Chicago is like my third parent, you know? I’ve always said that places are as important as people and where you live is kind of on the same level as your significant other or closest friend. That’s probably weird, but I really believe it.

If you know anything about Chicago music, you’re going to say, well, you’re missing this and that and the other, and you’re totally right. There’s a lot missing, and that’s not even taking into account my blatant disregard of blues, jazz, and straight-up rock. Think of this as my tightly edited, little slice of music performed or remixed by people from Chicago. Some of it is kind of personal (“Emotional,” as cheesy as it might be, brings me right back to my long-ass commute from work in St. Charles to home in Oak Park, maybe on one of those days where the sky goes dark, thunder booms, and your windshield wipers on high can’t stay ahead of the gigantic raindrops that smear the world in a way that’s sad and beautiful at the same time). Some of it is stuff I just discovered today (Where Do We Go, for example).

These songs are seriously all over the place, but I tried to put them in an order such that as a whole, the playlist makes some kind of sense and the transitions aren’t too jarring. I hope it worked and I hope you enjoy!

Note: The songs in italics were not on Grooveshark and I uploaded them, because I assume it’s an oversight rather than an intentional choice to keep them off Grooveshark. I hope they work for you!
